Pelham Civic Association Purchases Gifts for Children in the Community

Pelham Civics volunteers, members, families, and friends, wrapped and then delivered gifts for children in the community

The Pelham Civic Association not only distributes more than 160 large food baskets to families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas, but also gifts to the children.

Pelham Civic member Tim Curry said, “The members purchase, wrap and deliver presents to over 150 kids—ranging from ages 3 to 16— in plenty of time for Christmas.”

On Dec. 8, more than 80 members, families and friends of the Pelham Civics participated in its annual gift-wrapping event at the Richard J. Daronco Town House in Pelham.

Phil Carfora, Pelham Civics VP of Fundraising, added, “We fundraise, basically, throughout the entire year to fuel our many community programs, projects, and events with tremendous support from the entire Pelham community. Our Benefit Golf Outing every June helps provide those extra funds to meet the growing demands of families and individuals in need.”

Pelham Civics President Joe Benefico, whose grandfather and father also served as President of the 75 year-old volunteer charitable organization, continued, “Yes, we have many traditions

that we’re proud of. Our organization is growing, and so are the needs. Our promise to the Pelham community is that we will continue to work hard to meet them.”

Ever evolving with new community initiatives, the Civics recently launched an innovative program— “Help a Child, Change a Life.” It is spearheaded by Rich Davidian, Chairman of the Pelham Civics Good Neighbors Committee, who said, “The objective is to assist needy Pelham students with computers, tutoring, SAT prep courses, and other basic developmental opportunities that they just are unable to

afford. We’re confident that our community will sustain their tremendous support and generosity…particularly through this holiday season.”
