Pelham Civics’ Persons of the Year— John Calvelli and Joe DelVecchio
June 22, 2012
The Pelham Civic Association’s Person of the Year honorees for 2012 are John Calvelli and Joseph DelVecchio—exemplary individuals who are recognized because their leadership and achievements help improve the quality of life of the youth, the elderly, the financially needy, and the physically and mentally challenged in the community. A gala Dinner Dance will be held in their honor on Friday, Oct. 26 at The Fountainhead in New Rochelle.
John Calvelli has been an active member of the Pelham community since moving here in 1994. Most recently he became Chair of The Picture House Board of Directors, the group working to offer a regional and distinct alternative to commercial movie theaters by providing dynamic film and education programs.
Joe DelVecchio is retiring this June as Athletic Director of the Pelham School District. He has served 22 years as AD and before that was a physical education teacher and baseball coach in Pelham.Mr. DelVecchio, as Athletic Director of Pelham schools, has greatly enhanced the overall athletic program of the District by adding 13 new teams during his tenure. This improved the participation rate of students in sports to an amazing 60%. Through his diligence and hard work, he solidified a strong relationship between the Pelham Athletics program and the entire community. Because of his efforts, more individuals and families became involved in helping refurbish and build new fields and courts.
